Q.E.D. Saliva Alcohol Test (DOT-approved)

The Administrator opens the package. Discard any test in which the desiccant pack indicator has turned pink. Discard any test in which the central stripe of the device or QA Spot is purple. The donor removes the swab from the package. Note: It is recommended that all tests are run at room temperature 15-30C (59-86F)
Using the cotton swab, actively swab around the cheeks, gums, and under the tongue for 30-60 seconds until the cotton swab is thoroughly saturated.
Place the test device on a flat surface. Gently twist the swab with the collected saliva sample into the entry port and apply steady pressure to activate the capillary until the pink fluid passes the QA Spot located at the top of the test device. Allow the device to develop for two minutes. A distinct purple bar will form within the marked scale region. The highest point of the purple bar represents the level of Alcohol expressed as either a percentage (.0%) or milligrams (ml/dl) concentration.
The premium Q.E.D. Saliva Alcohol Test is CLIA-waived and approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for testing DOT-regulated employees. The kit contains a swab and tester that provides results in less than five minutes. Results are accurate, quantitative and similar to blood-based tests. Its thermometer-like tester is easy to read, eliminating risk of misinterpretation. It features a built-in QA SpotTM that ensures administrators apply the proper quantity of specimen in the right location of the tester.
Alcohol confirmation testing using approved breath alcohol testing (BAT) equipment
Alcohol confirmation testing is done at a collection facility that does breath alcohol Testing (BAT). Our lab partners in Asheville, Concord and Charlotte facilities can do this for local situations. In other areas, we will send the donor to an urgent care or other BAT-capable facility.
